EuroMillions gets more expensive

EuroMillions Lottery

Launch Date: September 27, 2016
The news is not new!
What news? That EuroMillions rises the ticket prices...
Already during the month of July this year, it has been announced that Euromillions was to become more expensive for players.
EuroMillions is played in Austria, Belgium, France, Ireland, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and the UK
How much more expensive?
Instead of £€2, the new tickets cost now €£2.50 ($3.30).
And what gets the player instead as compensation?
The lottery game will offer bigger prizes while more millionaire winners are now guaranteed.
Sounds great, looks better than before...
But there is another adjustment:
Players have to pick (still) 5 main numbers from 1 to 50 and 2 lucky stars, now from 1 to 12 (rather than 11).
The extra lucky star will reduce the chance of winning the jackpot from approximately one in 117 million currently to one in 140 million!
The good news should be that the overall odds of winning any prize on Euromillions remains at 1 in 13.
Which means that the overall odds of winning a prize will be unchanged.
Why this changes?
Upon one of the lottery operators (Camelot) the changes would bring bigger jackpots more often
Secondly: the lottery starting figures rises to £14 million and more than twice as many jackpots per year of over £50 million.
Local UK enhancements will include at least 2 guaranteed UK millionaires in every draw through the UK Millionaire Maker, doubling the current number of guaranteed UK millionaires per year, as well as additional promotional draws and ‘must-be-won’ European Millionaire Maker events.

So, in summary: the bottom line is more prizes, more excitement and more fun for players of Europe’s biggest lottery.
